This Privacy Policy describes how the “Image to prompt” Chrome extension (the “Extension”), operated by the developer of Image to prompt (“we,” “us,” “our”), collects, uses, stores, and shares user data. It also covers our website imagetoprompt.online. By installing or using the Extension you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Extension.

1. What Data We Collect
1.1 Image data (user-initiated only)
When you right-click an image and choose “Get AI prompt,” the Extension sends the selected image (its URL, or the image content itself) to our backend server so that a text prompt can be generated. This happens only when you explicitly request it. The Extension does not scan, read, or transmit any other images or page content in the background.
1.2 Anonymous installation identifier
On first run, the Extension generates a random identifier (UUID) on your device and stores it in Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local). This identifier is sent with each generation request. It is not derived from and cannot be linked to your name, email address, Google account, browsing history, or any other personal information.
1.3 Usage records
Each time a prompt is successfully generated, our server records the anonymous identifier and a timestamp. We use these records solely to enforce the daily free-generation limit and to prevent abuse.
1.4 Local settings
Your preferences (interface settings, rating-widget state) are stored locally in Chrome's extension storage on your device and are not transmitted to us.
What we do NOT collect
We do not collect names, email addresses, passwords, payment information, precise location, browsing history, keystrokes, or the content of web pages you visit. The Extension contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking code. We do not use cookies in the Extension. We do not sell user data.
2. How We Use Data
- Image data — used only to generate the descriptive text prompt you requested, and for no other purpose.
- Anonymous identifier and usage records — used only to enforce the daily generation quota, prevent abuse, and maintain aggregate service statistics (e.g., total number of generations).
- We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or training our own AI models, and we do not combine it with data from other sources.
3. How Data Is Stored and Retained
- Images are not stored. Images are processed transiently in memory on our server and forwarded to our AI processing provider (see Section 4). We do not save copies of your images or the generated prompts on our server.
- Usage records (anonymous identifier + generation timestamps) are stored in our database on our backend server. Because they are needed for quota enforcement and abuse prevention, they are retained for as long as the service operates, or until you request deletion (see Section 6).
- Local data (identifier, settings) remains on your device and is removed by Chrome when you uninstall the Extension.
- We use HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data transmission between the Extension, our server, and our processing provider, and we restrict access to our server and database.
4. Who We Share Data With (All Parties)
We share user data only with the following parties, and only to the extent necessary to operate the Extension:
- OpenRouter (OpenRouter, Inc., openrouter.ai) — our AI processing provider. The image you submit is forwarded to OpenRouter's API, which runs a vision-language model to produce the text prompt. OpenRouter processes the image under its own privacy policy (openrouter.ai/privacy) and terms; we send it the image and request only, not your identity.
- HOSTKEY B.V. (hostkey.com) — our hosting provider. Our backend server and database run on a private server rented from HOSTKEY. HOSTKEY processes data only as infrastructure (storage/computation) on our behalf under its privacy statement (hostkey.com/about-us/legal/privacy-statement) and has no right to use it for its own purposes.
- Google (Chrome Web Store, Google Forms, Google Fonts) — if you voluntarily open our feedback form (Google Forms) or leave a review on the Chrome Web Store, the data you enter there is collected by Google under Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). In addition, pages of our website load fonts from the Google Fonts service, so when you visit them Google receives standard technical data such as your IP address. The Extension itself does not send Google any data.
- GitHub, Inc. (GitHub Pages) — our website imagetoprompt.online (including the welcome and uninstall pages the Extension may open) is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit these pages, GitHub receives standard technical data (such as your IP address) as any web host does, under GitHub's privacy statement (docs.github.com/en/site-policy/privacy-policies).
- Umami (umami.is) — some pages of our website (such as the welcome page) use Umami Cloud, a privacy-focused, cookie-free web analytics service, to count anonymous page visits. Umami does not use cookies and does not track visitors across websites; when you visit these pages it receives standard technical data (such as your IP address) and processes it under Umami's privacy policy (umami.is/privacy). The Extension itself does not send Umami any data.
- Legal requirements — we may disclose data if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.
We do not share user data with any other third parties. We do not sell, rent, or trade user data. We do not transfer user data to third parties for advertising, and we do not use it for creditworthiness or lending purposes.
5. Chrome Web Store User Data Policy Compliance
Our use of information received from Google APIs and the Chrome platform adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements: user data is used only to provide or improve the Extension's single, user-facing feature (generating a text prompt from an image) and is never transferred for advertising, sold, or used for purposes unrelated to that feature.
6. Your Rights and Choices
- Deletion. You may request deletion of the usage records associated with your installation by emailing iuriilobanov41@gmail.com. Include your anonymous identifier if available (or simply describe your request), and we will delete the corresponding records within 30 days.
- Access and correction. You may ask us what data we hold that is associated with your identifier.
- Stop all collection. Uninstalling the Extension stops all data collection immediately and removes all locally stored data.
- EEA/UK users. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you additionally have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability under the GDPR, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Our legal bases for processing are the performance of the service you request (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse of the free quota (Art. 6(1)(f)).
7. International Data Transfers
Our server and our processing provider may be located in countries other than your country of residence. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers, and in all cases the data transferred is limited to what is described in this Policy (the submitted image and an anonymous identifier).
8. Children
The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where the GDPR applies). If we learn that we have, we will delete it promptly.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect data: encrypted transmission (HTTPS/TLS), access controls on our server and database, and data minimization (we collect only what is described above). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but the small amount and anonymous nature of the data we keep limits risk.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we change this Policy, we will post the updated version at this same address and update the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected in the Extension's Chrome Web Store listing as required.
